Aaron joined the Point West family as a well-known and highly respected coach in the volleyball community. He believes in the Point West philosophy of teaching both the fundamentals of volleyball and life, to give athletes opportunities to learn life lessons through game situations.
Aaron’s coaching career started in 2005 coaching both club and college volleyball. He is currently the assistant coach for the Moorpark College Beach Volleyball team and his 11th year with the Women’s Volleyball team, and 8th year as Men’s Head Coach. Aaron began his Moorpark College coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach with the Women’s Volleyball program in 2010, becoming the assistant women’s volleyball coach in 2011 and head men’s coach in 2014.
Growing up in Ventura County, Aaron has been extremely active with the coaching at the youth club level for both girls and boys over the last 12 years, working with local clubs such as Sports Academy, Ventura County Volleyball Club, Bones Volleyball Club, and California Heat VBC before joining Point West. He also served as the men’s head coach for San Diego State University’s men’s club volleyball team and assistant for Westlake High School’s boys’ team.
As a coach, Hedland’s coaching accolades include 2017 WSC-N Coach of the Year (Moorpark College Men’s), 2017 WSC-N Conference Champions (Moorpark College Men’s), 6-time WSC Conference Champions (Moorpark College Women’s), 2014 USAV BJNC – U18 Club division silver medalist (VCVC), 2013 SCVA Boys Junior Classic – U16 bronze medalist (Bones VC), and multiple Top 4 CIF-SS finishes (Westlake High School). He also has been host and director of the Ventura County High School Volleyball All-Star games since 2013.
He is a graduate of Westlake High School, playing for their two-time Marmonte League champion (2003, 2004) and Division I CIF finalist (2004) volleyball team. Hedland then attended Moorpark College and UC San Diego, receiving All-Western States Conference and Scholar Athlete honors. Aaron also has a Master of Arts in Coaching & Athletic Administration and a Master of Science in Coaching & Exercise Sciences from Concordia University, Irvine. Aaron lives in Moorpark with his wife and son.
